Looking for something to do on a first date? Or maybe you just want to spend a Saturday doing something a little different? Nashville has so much to offer, I thought it best to set some select criteria before I begin. First, I wanted to do something that isn’t too expensive. Especially if it is a first date; you don’t want to get too extravagant. Second, I wanted something the whole family could enjoy, just in case that first date was long ago.
Just southeast of Nashville center is Walden Farm. It is open daily except Wednesdays and is a family fun festival kind of place, especially during the Fall season. There are lots of activities for the kids at very reasonable prices, and an Old Country Store, pick your own pumpkin (for four dollars), and of course Hay Rides (for just three dollars each). Walden Farm is located just south of Nashville in Smyrna, Tennessee off Interstate 24. There is food and beverages available, also at reasonable prices; and you can have a piece of pumpkin fudge for dessert. http://www.waldenfarm.biz/index.html
Walden Farm usually closes at 6:30 PM, so you first date people will have plenty of time to drive the 22.3 miles back north and slightly east of downtown Nashville to McNamara’s Irish Pub & Restaurant. The reviews are always great, the atmosphere is uniquely Irish, and there is live music nightly with a special “family show” on Sundays from 6 to 9 PM. A typical review reads:
“This was a great find! We were looking for somewhere to go on a Thursday night while on vacation and we stumbled on this pub since it got such great reviews. I really wish we found it earlier since we just caught the end of a live music set (no cover), which was really good. The service was very prompt, and the waitress was very nice. They poured a perfect Guinness and the prices were pretty good. The salt and vinegar homemade kettle chips were awesome and went perfect with the beer and music. The decor is really nice, and it has a perfect Irish Pub feel.”
Open daily except Mondays, McNamara’s is a great place for a family Sunday dinner, or something other than that movie-and-a-pizza routine for a first date. http://www.mcnamarasirishpub.com/
The greater Nashville area is loaded with fun things to do and places to go; both stops are some of the best Nashville has to offer. After all it’s not called “Music City” for nothin’.
