Need an economical Mother’s Day gift? Here’s a fun way to appreciate Mom and celebrate her special day. Take a day trip to Byrdstown, Tennessee and see a play for just twelve bucks ($12.00 dollars), then take her downtown to the casual Dixie Café for dinner.
The Arsenic and Old Lace matinee performance that begins at 2PM, on Saturday May 12th, 2018 is presented by the Good Neighbors Theater (GNT) troop. An all-volunteer organization, the GNT has been hosting performances of all kinds—plays, dinner theater, mystery theater, music and magic. Some of you may be familiar with the Arsenic and Old Lace movie classic starring Cary Grant made back in 1944 (rent it on Amazon video for $2.99); I am sure this comical murder mystery done by the GNT theater group will be just as enjoyable. The Good Neighbors Theater is located at 8780 Highway 111 in Byrdstown, TN., and is approximately two and one-half hours from Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga Tennessee. https://www.goodneighborstheatre.org/arsenic-and-old-lace.
The Dixie Café, a small town casual restaurant located on the square in Byrdstown, is just minutes from Dale Hollow Lake. A favorite restaurant for locals, a typical review reads:
“Great southern food and friendly atmosphere. You will meet the local folks there, a wonderful WWII Veteran who hangs out.
You HAVE to try the home-made pies with the best cup of bottomless coffee in town!
Great stop after a day on the lake.”
Every Friday and Saturday night they bring in Country bands; run dinner specials, come early as the seats go fast!”
Live bluegrass, country, and folk music is played every Friday and Saturday night (not open on Sunday) from 6PM to 8PM.
So, hit the road the day before Mother’s Day, take a mini-road trip to Byrdstown Tennessee and delight in a live play and dinner afterwards on a shoe-string budget.
